Heavy Metal Bands for #ds106 True Friends

Well, this was just a twitter one that I did one night, but since I just mentioned it in Don’t Make It Too Easy, John!  I figured I should make it into a blog post of it. It was because my True Friend  Mr. Paul (@phb256 on Twitter) wanted to know if I had a Heavy Metal Band.

"Does Tina Have a Band?" said by @phb256 on Twitter.

So, there is a thing on the Internet that you click and it makes a random Heavy Metal Band name for you.. So I decided to use it to find a special band back for Mr. Paul:

for @phb256

"InRentedRapture" for @phb256

“InRentedRapture” for @phb256

After that,  I just sat there on the Internet and clicked it for hours and hours, picking out the gems of it that worked for some of my other True Friends.

So here are the good ones that it made:

Plus, I didn’t think about it then, but it could also be Hippy MOOCS Laughter or Hippy MOOC Slaughter depending on how you are feeling on that particular day.

Well, bye!

Don’t Make it Too Easy, John!

Well, my True Friend John (@johnjohnston on Twitter) is a GIFfriend Master who also likes to teach a computer how to make a GIF for you.

A recent experiment by John allows just anybody to just upload a picture and press a button and make a Dancing Jim one of UNCLE Jim (@jimgroom on Twitter) without any hard work at all.

I decided that I would try it out with a couple of pictures I had left lying around from when I did Heavy Metal Bands for #ds106 True Friends and also Movie Posters Without Any Icons from last time.

Here is what I made with John’s one-click GIF-JIm-Dancing.

Plus, because it has a special place in his heart, here is one where UNCLE Jim is Escaping from New York.

It sure is easy, but it makes the Dancing Jim All Over the World assignment already into an even easier one so that is only one star.

Which might be a short term save for you at the last minute on a Sunday night early on in the course, but it won’t stretch your real skillz, plus it’s not nearly as much fun as doing them the proper way.

All Those Iconic Movie Posters Without Their Icons

So, your job, should you choose to accept it, Mr. Groom, is to identify all of the Iconic Movies that these are the Iconic Movie Posters from, except that I took the Iconic Parts out of them because of The Daily Create, tdc1210, which said to take them out. They are officially called “Absence Art Posters” and the idea comes from a series called “Arrête ton cinéma” by French artistic director Madani Bendjellal. The Daily Create directed us to “Some empty film posters to help you kill time until the working day’s over” on It’s Nice That by James Cartwright, who was highlighting Bendjellal’s work.

Added: As it turned out, I jumped right in and made a whole whack of these before looking at the examples; three of the ones which I painstakingly cleaned up had been previously done by Bendjellal. He had a different starting point for one of his (my Number 5), but I think I cleaned up my Number 3 better by removing more of the iconic bits. I’m okay having left the shadow as a clue for my Number 8. I also removed all traces of clues (film credit footers with directors, actors, etc.) so that you might have to dig a bit deeper for a couple. Number 6 was for Jim Groom, and it led me naturally to number 7, which also turned out nicely.

So, let’s get going! Which iconic movie is that first one from, up there at the top?

Next, we will go in order from the order I did them on my Flickr.

Number 1

Number 7

Number 8

and then the Number 9 one of it is right up there at the top where you started.

So. What are all these 9 Iconic Movies called? It is a contest to put all of the answers in the Comments. Whoever gets them all right first is the winner.

Are You Feeling Artsy, Hippy?

UNCLE Jim Groom (UNCLE Jim Groom, @jimgroom on Twitter, on Twitter) was writing today about a GIF that Spencer Scott made of him that was a Clint Eastwood one.

But when I saw it, I was thinking about when the Hippies where putting flowers in the guns and that UNCLE Jim would probably have a Hippy one with flowers in it. Plus a Hippies Flower Power badge of it.

UNCLE Jim’s flower came from this GIPHY garden.

So this is an AnimatedGIF Assignments 859 Riff-A-GIF based on Spencer’s picture but now is a GIF.
