Trip with Tina

Draft Promo Poster for ‘Take a Trip with Tina Travel Company,” image by @iamTalkyTina

Well, there are lots of different modes of transportation that you can go on a trip with, and you can see me in my nice red uniform waiting for you at the top in all of the pictures, waiting for you to take a trip.

This is a poster for The Daily Create, tdc2009, which says “Show us your poster for your travel company,” and so I did, for my company called Take a Trip with Tina Travel Company.

Announcing the Summer 2015 Village Festival !!

“Summer 2015 Village Festival poster” by iamTalkytina

We are going to have a Summer 2015 Village Festival that will be just so much fun for all the Residents!

I can let the word out now that one of the reasons I have been here in The Village this summer has been to organize a celebration of fun for all my ds106 Friends and True Friends who are in The Village this summer.

You can see from the beautiful poster that I made that there will be a lot of very fun events and it will only cost you 5 Credit Units to participate in everything! It will be such a fun time and I know you will all have a great time!

So get your favourite Village clothes all pressed and clean, and get your umbrella ready for a beautiful sunny day of community enjoyment! We will have such a good event!

I will BE SEEING YOU all there!

Note: The Summer 2016 Village Festival has been planned and arranged by me, @iamTalkyTina, under contract and at the behest of The Committee, in conjunction with the good folks at the Tally Ho Press, under the auspices of iamTalkyTina and Tally Ho Press Productions for the Residents of The Village, Summer 2015

Plus this poster is worth more than the 2 Credit Units that I get for it under the Festival or Fundraiser Design Assignment 1751 that I said when nobody had ever done it but then John did it and now I have done it so that is two people now who are leading the way.

So YOU get out there and make your Art, bubs!

Your Community Needs You

iaTT_YourCommunityNeedsYou

I in going through some old files here in my quarters within The Village, I found an old something from quite a few years back that I though my True Friends might be interested in. I have made a small number of references to some aspects of my history with The Village, and while I cannot say too much, I have received permission to share the artifact with the Summer 2015 Residents, given that this is Design Week and all.  You will see that this poster is just a standard Village one where they put in a different picture whenever there is a changeover in the Green dome. I think you saw some of these posters in the A Change of Mind one.

I hope that you enjoy seeing it, and trust that you will see that it is just me, your good old, trusty True Friend, in acting in a very positive, supportive role. Which is so important!

Be Seeing You!

Afterwords

Well, after I found this and made sure it was safe to share it, then I realized that I might be a bit slim on the old Credit Units this week, and there really wasn’t a Design Assignment that I could tag this poster for. So I decided to take the Village one and turn it into a ds106 one. Because I can get Credit Units for a DS106 Propaganda Poster from Design Assignment 367 which is maybe almost a perfect fit because the original Village poster is kind of a propaganda one. Like the man with the stars and stripes hat needs you was.

So I added a bar at the bottom to say “ds106 digital storytelling community” and “make art #4life (and friends)” and so now I can get 3 Credit Units for the community!

The Three-Fingered Djinn

“The Three-Fingered Djinn” by Talky Tina, on Flickr

Well, I am starring in a new radio production entitled “The Three-Fingered Djinn.”

It is a DS106 project for NOIR106 that I am doing with a bunch of my True Friends.

In it, I play the starring role of the fatal femme Daphne de Beauvoir, which is a name that I like the best because it means good looking. In the picture she is smoking for effect, but I don’t do that in real life because it is bad for you, plus smelly.

I am currently in the studio recording my part, which will be great with accents as I am playing a lady with a French last name who is from America. (I have looked in the script for the Djinn, plus in the cast list, but I don’t know who is playing that part. But it is in the title so it must be in there somewhere.)

Please tune in to hear the wonderful production on our favourite radio DS106Radio. It is #4life, just like noir106 and True Friends.

How I Made This Poster Art

I used this stuff:

I got a list of names of the other peoples from the script, which I also edited to put in things like the de of my name, plus a few extra words because if I am going to say it, then it needs to sound like me!

I mixed all of the stuff up in Photoshop with layers and erasers and clone tools and paintbrush and text (with the fonts that I said upstairs) and got rid of the bodies and made it all look nice and made all the colours go to black and white for noir and then it was done.

Do you like my noir106 Art? Well?

Bye! Be sure to listen to me in the radio play when it is on ds106radio! #4life!

August 2013 GIF Challenge #5: Re-invoke a Missing DS106 Friend

Well, it was back in February 2013 when I got invoked by @cogdog and @BryanAlexander when they were talking on ds106radio. And it woke me up in my cardboard box and the next thing you knew, I was on Twitter chatting at them while they were still on ds106radio. So that is how I, myself, got invoked.

But sometimes a ds106 Friend goes missing or goes quiet or gets shy or something, and then they are missed by their Friends and they need to be re-invoked. It is kind of like a mystical thing, I think, because it pulls them back from where ever they go to when they are not in the ds106 world. Like what happened to @scottlo before and then people made him wake up. Kind of like that.

So one thing you can do (if you do not have the full power like me to write the script — but I say too much) is to make an animated GIF poster that re-invokes your Friend.

Here is the small version of my GIF poster for my absent New, Old Radio Super True Friend @scottlo, who kind of disappeared after doing 25 LoDown broadcasts on #ds106radio.

(Rumour has it that he is going to be at Soundcamp at TRU Thompson Rivers University on August 15th in Kamloops, BC, Canada — I may just pack myself up in my suitcase and head out there to look around in the hopes of finding him!)

If you are missing a Friend from the DS106 Digital Storytelling Community, maybe you can re-invoke them into coming back with a voodoo Animated GIF Poster of your own! It is a new Animated GIF Assignment 1186, Re-invoke an Absent DS106 Community Member that you can do today!

A little note about making this poster

I took a look on the Internet for a missing person poster and found this ready-made word template on the website for the Canadian Centre for Information on Missing Adults.  That was to help me make something look official and contemporary instead of some kind of old-west WANTED poster which was another idea.  But I got a little confused for a while by the template because it kept saying ENTER YOUR DATA and when I did that the poster seemed to be more about ME than it was about @scottlo. So after I had to change it to more about him. But this is what happened:

So that is what happened.

But now that you know, you can go make your own poster for your own missing ds106 Friend. I think the more posters for one Friend, the more powerful the GIF poster voodoo invocation power is.

August 2013 GIF Challenge #3: DS106 Promo Poster

Well, Friends.

The DS106 Community stepped up for the August 2013 Animated GIF Challenge #2 and got UNCLE @jimgroom animated in John Johnston’s Dancing Jim All Over the World assignment, with SEVEN new entries showing now as being syndicated through to the assignment page and at least two others seen in the wild and perhaps waiting in some queue to get indexed. (Be sure to tag your assignments with both the AnimatedGIFAssignments tag and the AnimatedGIFAssignmentsXXXX numbered tag so that it gets onto the assignment page.)

It was so fun to see Jim dancing here and there, and I just had to have another go at making him dance before I went to sleep. Both @dogtrax and @Rockylou22 had Jim dancing on top of the world, and I was inspired by their work to riff-a-GIF and show all the different Jims dancing on the world at the same time like a UNICEF logo.

In the end, my little enthusiasm pushed me through the sleepiness (and ds106rad.io is great middle-of-the-night company!) and I wound up with a DS106 Promotion Poster, and a new Animated GIF Assignment 1183: Tell the World About DS106 GIF

Since we are in the GIFfing weeks leading up to the next session (Fall 2013 #headless13, starting August 26th), it seems appropriate to have everyone make a DS106 Promo Poster GIF to get the word out to the great uninformed masses. Perhaps we can draw in some newcomers who need to see the DS106 light. There must still be a few out there. LOL.

NOTE: Click on the GIF to hear the music that all the Jim Grooms are dancing to. (Thanks, John!)

The MIDI version of “It’s a Small World” was found at Willie Wonkas Free MIDI Music Factory Downloads. The site is glorious in its application of old-style GIF animation and hand-built HTML, and is worth a click through for the sake of nostalgia.

Since this GIF also made use of yesterday’s Dancing Jim Groom theme, I also tagged it for the Animated GIF Assignment 1001. So it’s a two-fer.

Okay — get out and promote your favourite aspect of DS106 to the world with a special GIF!
