DS106: An Exhilarating Trip

“DS106 An Exhilarating Trip,” by Talky Tina, on Flickr

This is an Art that I made for The Daily Create — this is for #tdc1107 where it said to make a Haiku about what it was like when you do DS106 for the first time.

First, I put my Haiku on The Daily Create where I also linked to a picture of stairs that I found on the Internet, and then I made the Art by putting my Haiku on a copy of the picture with my Photoshop and with a font called Snell Roundhand which was a font that I had lying around in my Photoshop from another time.

I tried to find the original image so that I could credit the photographer, but my ol’ TinEye was only able to find 248 of it to pick from, and I think they were all copies of it, like when I looked at the oldest ones, they were copies, I think.

Make your own Art, bub!

And hold the handrail!

Well, bye!

If I Could Go Back and Change ONE Thing

Well, If I could go back and change ONE thing, it would be a thing that happened many, many years ago when I was working in Hollywood.

I had a feature part in an episode of a famous television series in the sixties, and something happened back then during that time that has kind of haunted me ever since. Not that I let it bother me too much, but still it is a thing that I look upon as a black thing on my career.

It happened when I was filming an episode of “The Twilight Zone.” The episode was Episode 6 from Season 5, and I was the star of it.  It was called Living Doll, and like I said, I was the star of it. In it, there is a part near the end, where, without giving away too much, there is an action scene with me in it and kind of the climax of the episode. After that scene and the episode was on TV, I had a kind of sad time for a while. After a bit, I was getting typecast and peoples were saying that I was too short and it was hard for me to get work. I wrote about all of that in my book.

But anyway, the thing that I would change if I could go back and change ONE thing is in that episode and in that part of it what has to become known as “Tina’s famous stairs scene.” It is one of my best work, but there is that one thing I would change.

Watch this clip, and I think you will see what I would change if I could go back and Change ONE Thing.

See?

Well, bye!

Don’t Try this at Home, Kids!

First, please understand that as a trained actress, stunt person, ninja, and generally responsible person, I have a deep understanding and heathy respect for stairs. Those of you who know me will understand this.

Second, know that as the designated and contracted Health and Safety Officer for The DS106 WorkPlace, I can only advocate for a most careful and proper use of any and all stairs. Stairs are not to be trifled with, nor treated without the appropriate caution. If there are handrails, hold onto them.

Third, please respect and follow my direction when I say, “Don’t Try This at Home, Kids!”

All that being said, I got a great piece of news today from my friend Mariana (@mdvfunes), who found me a beautiful set of stairs by S|PyroGIF on Tumblr (@BlobbyBarack on Twitter). I just had to try them out as soon as I saw them, and I must confess that I have been playing on them ever since.  Up and down, down and up, they are just SO MUCH FUN! I have been doing all of my special moves and and even trying out some new ones and I must admit that they are among the finest stairs I have ever encountered. Yes, there have been other stairs that are more aesthetic, or more historic, or more personally satisfying for reasons I will not mention. But these stairs are the most funnest!

And so, as I say “Well, Bye,” you can imagine me enjoying many hours yet to come of exploring this new find. Thanks, Mariana!

See ya!   😉

reMemborex Camera Visualizes Tina’s #thoughtvectors

“Me, Having #thoughtvectors” animated GIF by @iamTalkyTina

So, after my True Friend Bill (@byzantiumbooks, on Twitter) made a picture of himself having #thoughtvectors then I thought that there must be a way to capture an image of me having them too, like when Bill made that radio.  I dug around in my closet for an old polaroid camera and jury-rigged it to capture some #thoughtvectors in real time. I call the hacked device a reMemborex camera.

When I am having a lot of #thoughtvectors, it can be sometimes a bit overwhelming. Maybe that is the way for other people?  I was reading about Gardner Campbell (@GardnerCampbell, on Twitter) making numbers on all of his associative trails (Reviewing our shady past: Nugget #1, and A conceptacular experience), and I was thinking that it would be nice if my PsycicSiri app could do that for me automatically, so that I didn’t have to keep doing screen captures and putting numbers on them with red.  If you look at the picture of me having #thoughtvectors up above, you can see that there is a lot going on, with thought vectors spinning and going out of my head, and things like books and Twitter and camera-pictures, and videos, and sounds and stuff all creating a barrage on my head from inside and out. Is it like that for you, sometimes, too?

Then, I use my ninja zen powers and make it all calm, like this:

"Ninja Zen" animatedGIF by @iamTalkyTina

“Ninja Zen” animatedGIF by @iamTalkyTina

I am working at developing some kind of mental focus on some of the #thoughtvectors as I shift to the ninjazen, but unfortunately the transition right now is far too abrupt, and so the effect is one of throwing some kind of massive “off switch,” as if I tripped on the stairs and fell and bonked my head. Maybe one day I will make a GIF that is between the two extremes — for now, I am working on the mental powers needed to effect that in real life. Having the main trails stay glowing in a little bit of luminescence after the ninjazen switch is thrown would be nice. And then I could use my reMemborex camera to capture the key remnants.

Well, I have some other things to share, and I need to make a badge yet today, so I will go back to do some more reading by that Vancouver Bush, now that I have my #thoughtvectors GIF done.

Dogs Aren’t Afraid of Stairs!

“Things Are Looking Up For A Birthday Dog Now!” by Talky Tina, on Flickr

Well, my Still True Friend Alan (@cogdog) is having a birthday today and so I made him an Art and posted it on my Flickr. It is up above these words, so you already looked at it.

  1. One good thing about Alan is that he is not clumsy on stairs, because that is not a good thing to happen. Like it did for that other guy.
  2. Another good thing about Alan is that he is not afraid of stairs. Because when you want to get from one place to another like from one floor to another or into a building or on the way back out then there are stairs and you do not want to be afraid of going from one place and getting to another. Like if you need to learn how to get from one thing to another and there are stairs in between of it, then you need to tackle those stairs right on and get there so you can learn it. So that is a really good thing about Alan because he is always learning about how to get to it there and he does not worry about the stairs.
  3. Plus, if there aren’t any stairs there, then he just builds his own stairs, which is pretty amazing most of the time when you think about stairs.

Do you always stop when you get to the bottom or the top of stairs? Even if there is a lot of the stairs? Well, you should not. Like my Still True Friend Alan, you have to just go up the stairs or down the stairs however you have to so that you can do it and get there.

Plus, I found some pictures of dogs on the Internet that have their own special elevator which I guess is okay for them because they have maybe problems with stairs, but they still want to be able to get there. Go Dogs, Go!

So, HAPPY BIRTHDAY to you, my Still True Friend, Alan (@cogdog) , and I hope that you keep going up and down a lot of stairs #4life, because that is what stairs are for! Plus, in dog years.

Well, bye!

Tina’s Stairs Redux

“Tina’s Stairs Redux” animatedGIF, by @iamTalkyTina

Well, my good Super True New Old Radio Friend @scottlo (where IS he, anyway?) has said that I need to leave off with all the stairs gags. I guess even a good running (or falling) gag runs its course after a few decades of use. It was a bit of a surprise today to find this little remake video on YouTube  — I had thought that little secret was buried in the never ending expanse of the web.

Oh well, as they say, “What happens on the Internet, stays on the Internet.”

But on the upside, as a positive NEW 2014 New Year’s real resolution (not a 2014 Non-Resolution), I have decided to dial back on the Stairs metaphor a bit in the coming year. Not completely, mind you, but a significant bit.  (I bet you will still be able to hear me think it, even if I don’t say it …)

I blame John Johnston (@JohnJohnston) (google is) and Tom Woodward (@twoodwar) for setting me on this little path today, and so, in the spirit of getting a good thing out of my system in preparation for the coming period of abstinence, (and as a final (temporary) bow in their (the stairs) direction), I present:

Stairs Are A-Z (plus, no secrets on Google)

Google-Stairs-Are-AZ-no-secrets

Stair Are A-Z (plus, no secrets on Google)” animated GIF by @iamTalkyTina

Although my final search turned up 0 results (you have to watch the GIF to the end to see that), I did manage to come across the YouTube video through some extra-advanced Tina-ninja Google digging, and so my illustration of the search is the GIF of the stair fall that appears at the beginning of this post.

I think I’ve done this autocomplete-as-a-GIF assignment before, but I wasn’t able to find it just now in the ds106 Assignment Bank. Maybe someone can help me find it?

Tina on the Red Carpet

Well, sometimes I go to a Red Carpet event and I get my picture taken. In this case, these pictures are from a carpeting convention in Buffalo, so I was just wearing a sweatshirt and jeans instead of my usual glamour gown. But these pictures are good for showing today’s The Daily Create Challenge tdc621:

Make a photograph featuring a path, road, or trail that leads the eye through the photograph.

Like I said, I decided to use red like a bullfighter to help guide your eye like a bull fighter waves red things to guide the bull’s eye, plus I used stairs which you should really be paying attention to, so that you don’t slip and fall and all.

After I made all of those pictures, I also made a GIF one.  I put it at the top to really catch your eye with guiding your eye and red and stairs and moving. But you should look at the other pictures I made too, Tina – Red Carpet Stairs 1, Tina – Red Carpet Stairs 2, Tina – Red Carpet Stairs 3, Tina – Red Carpet Stairs 4, Tina – Red Carpet Stairs 5  because they are all good too.

CHALLENGE: In each picture, see if you can let the picture guide your eye right to me. Does it work? I bet so!

Perhaps Things Are Looking Up for You Now?

“tdc606 Perspective: Perhaps Things Are Looking Up For You Now?” by iamtalkytina, on Flickr

This is just a little exercise-in-perspective sketch that I whipped off many years ago after a little event. It came to mind today as I read of The Daily Create for September 5th, and I thought it might be appropriate.

tdc606: “Make a drawing that emphasizes perspective (e.g. angle of view)”

I just hopped the bus down to the local Art Gallery where it is currently on display as part of a little show. I snagged a photo that I could upload to Flickr so you all could see it.

I hope you like it as much as I had making it. And the circumstances surrounding it, too.

The beautiful frame around my picture in my image is cc licensed ( BY NC SA ) flickr photo by rubyblossom on Flickr.

And the beginnings of the engraved plaque was sourced here.

Well, bye!

tdc547: Are You Getting Your Daily Vitamin CRE8 ?

My Still True Friend Alan (@cogdog) has been having a bunch of drill sergeant yammering at him and everybody else for over a week now about how important it is that you get your daily summer supplement of ds106 Vitamin CRE8.

I have been doing my little best to get some Daily Vitamin CRE8 every day. That Flickr still doesn’t seem to see my cre8s but now that I think about it maybe @cogdog has blocked me from showing up from Flickr in the same way that he seems to be able to block my friendly comments on his blog. Perhaps he is in a different zone from me like those shows where something happens like a noise and then people are there and we can see both on the TV but somebody can’t see the other people in the show and they’re like right there saying, “Hello, CAN YOU SEE ME, I’m standing right here in front of you, HELLOOOOO!!!!!” and then they say, “Oh, I think we must be in a different dementia zone or something.” So maybe that’s why he can’t hear me. Maybe he is in a different dementia zone. But I still think he’s just pretending.

Anyway, here is my cre8 July 8 which was to make a drawing using 8s and so I did and then I thought it would be more fun if it moved a little bit, so here it is.

You can see my efforts on this page that I have made just for the The Daily Create Summer 2013 Challenge so that you can see all the ones that I do. And you can also see my The Daily Create posts in this category called The Daily Create. And if you think that this one tdc547 looks like the one for tdc541 “Draw something abstract out of straight lines,” then that is your imagination, not mine. It’s just a coincidence, I say!!

tdc541: What I Drew with Lines

So The Daily Create for July 2nd is tdc541: Draw something abstract out of straight lines.

Here is What I Drew With Lines:

Do you like it? Can you say what it is? I know, but I think that to lots of people it will just look like lines.

Make some Art, bub!
