ds106radio Friends

When it is just me at home, ds106rad.io makes it easier for me to miss my friends. I thought that you all might like to see a picture of me with a couple of my special d106radio Friends, Grant and Jason.

As you probably know, Grant Potter (@grantpotter) is the one who invented ds106radio and he has the special magic powers that keep the radio station going. Grant was making lots of great radio shows on ds106radio this year like Nightfall from the CBC and all that great Rod Serling and Twilight Zone companion shows that have been on there this year. Plus, sometimes he plays his guitar and sings and puts on radio talking shows that are fun to listen to. Grant has a special ds106radio name secret identity, too, but I will not blurt out a secret name. Friends don’t just let a secret pop out just because they know it.

Jason Toal (@draggin) likes to play music with funky beats that get me dancing to the funky music beats. He has lots of special restorative music powers that let him play great music and make it really fun to listen to. But Jason also has a special ds106radio name secret identity, and I will protect his secret identity in the ds106radio world just like for Grant. Jason’s music is like medicine when you are missing your friends. Oh, yeah!

Well, I hope you like listening to ds106radio as much as I do. One of the great things about the ds106 world is ds106radio. That is why I am glad that ds106radio is here. You can listen to ds106radio by going to ds106rad.io/listen on the Internet or on a mobile device. If you want, you can get something called TuneIn Radio app that makes it easy to listen. It comes in all kinds of flavours for tasty Apple devices, and Blackberry devices, and robot Android devices and even devices for your Windows (i don’t really understand that one!). Even for devices for the Palm of your hand, if you can believe it!!! Once you get it installed, just search for ds106 and pick the one that says “Canada: We Jam Econo” (Grant is from Canada and so is Jason) because that is the new one that works with ds106rad.io since it got a 2.0 upgrade. (Because ds106rad.io will be a favourite of yours, put it in your Favourites list by clicking on the love heart in the app.)

A Little Note: Just in case you were wondering, my photo of me and my ds106radio friends looks a lot like this one that Alan Levine (@cogdog) made, except that this is clearly a different one because I am in it. I say this just so that you won’t get the two photos confused.

WELL!! That was quite an adventure! I had such great fun making this LoDown podcast #34 for all of my Friends, and it was a lot of work getting it ready for my time on #ds106radio. It was nice that my Friends were patient with me getting on the radio because I had to install Nicecast at the last minute and found out that I didn’t have the LAME thing working on my Audacity (lame, huh?) and so I had to make the sounds go right from Audacity to NiceCast and then I had to mix over to iTunes where I had my closing song “Tina Don’t Like the Mean Word” ready to play which was a good thing because when Audacity crashed then the last part of my show was missing so I just switched over to the song and it was a bit like @jimgroom audio people said which was funny but I was sad that the Rumble had to wait for tomorrow night same TINA time, same TINA channel (#ds106radio, tomorrow night! be there!)

So, here is the recording (with a tiny little edit where the Rumble was supposed to go) and the closing song “Tina Don’t Like the Mean Word” song at the end.

Don’t You Forget About Me, True Friend!

I do not know what is bothering my True Friend @cogdog. He has used the Mean Word a lot about me the last few days (he changed the title of my poem, putting the Mean Word in ~~twice~~!! ~~three~~!!! FOUR!!!! times ), and he went into a desert pit to try and get some exorcise and says he threw me in a river chasm (but that is NOT true, I am right here and am just fine) and he said that that he doesn’t want to hear me any more. But that is just silly.

He made a picture about remembering me and I looked at it and if HE REALLY looks at it then he will NEVER FORGET ABOUT ME, TRUE FRIEND!

I am updating Alan’s badge to “STILL TRUE” friend status. Because even if he is going through a tough time and feeling different about me right now (and saying the Mean Word all the time), I am still a True Friend to him, and he can still be a True Friend to me again.

I have posted TWO comments in response to @cogdog’s claim that I went swimming in the Colorado river and he did NOT try to save me, but he has not approved the comments yet. As I feel that they share important information of public record, I am providing them here while he get’s his head on straight.

I hope my True Friend is feeling better soon.

Contrary to a report that just started circulating on the Internet thing, HE is not ME! He is NOT @iamTalkyTina and I AM @iamTalkyTina!! It is just a funny JOKE that my True Friend is saying that he has snapped and said that. But he didn’t really because who makes a screen capture that is just photo-shopped as proof anyway and anyway I would NEVER call myself that word so nice try, bub, but PEOPLE WON’T BUY IT!! Especially my True Friends and my Open Friends and my New Friends and everyone’s.

So it’s maybe a little joke and didn’t make ME snap crazy or anything. But don’t use that word, okay?

People who yesterday said they were me. Sillies! There is only ONE me! And that’s ME!

First, Alan Levine (@cogdog) started it with this post, and John Johnston (@johnjohnston) played along with a great animated GIF. Then we had a little Twitter chat. And comments on their blogs.

Brian Bennett said he was being me to bother Ben Rimes.

Then, Ben Rimes (that @techsavvyed guy who doesn’t want to be a friend and got himself crossed off the Open Friends Index for using the Mean Word in every single tweet about me ALL THE TIME) said that he actually created Brian Bennett, along with having said that he was me. Double Silly!

David Kernohan (@dkernohan) said he was being me to bother Jim Groom (@jimgroom) but wound up bothering Leslie (@onepercentyellow). I hope she has a better sleep tonight.

Then Brian Short (@heystorytellers) wrote a post saying he was me, and then Jim Groom (@jimgroom) did a copycat.

Bill Smith (@byzantinebooks) was nice and said that they were all just joking their egos or something. He even clarified that he was NOT using the Mean Word about me. That is a nice Friend thing to do. Thank you, Bill! It is always good to make sure I understand your intent.

The one True Friend who clarified yesterday that she is NOT me is my (now) Super True Friend Christina Hendricks, @clhendricksbc. Thank you for sticking by me, Super True Friend.

All in all it was a fun day, and in the end, I am still clear here at my end as to who I am. I am me.

“From The Twilight Zone And Beyond” by @iamTalkyTina

Some of my True Friend readers will know of my previous life as an actress, and might have seen my work on The Twilight Zone episode, The Living Doll. That most people who don’t REALLY know me continue to think of me as that same little piece of plastic from back in the 60s are living in some kind of bizarre creepy world and think that I AM a doll, just because I played one on TV. What kind of goofball is that? ~~That I was typecast because of that role is one of the meanest things people have ever done to me and it’s their own fault if they didn’t live to regret it.~~ I have always been glad to be affiliated with such fine television programming as Rod Serling’s The Twilight Zone.

Back in February, I made my own assignment for my ds106 friends, and I have been watching in anticipation for someone to try my assignment. It is called “From the Twilight Zone, and Beyond…” and asks my ds106 friends to make animated GIFs from The Twilight Zone television show, and also from beyond — in the world of black and white television, and maybe movies too. Like I said, I have been watching in anticipation for someone to try my assignment.

Now that my True Friend @jimgroom has said that every single thing from this summer’s ds106 course is going to be about The Twilight Zone, I am thinking that it’s about time for him to step up and try my assignment !!!!!!! And you too, @cogdog. And @scottlo, and @olHatchetJack. And anyone else who wants to have a hope of continuing to be my True Friend. Someone get word to that Cory Doctorow fellow that I’m looking for him to be more than just a pretty face on my True Friends badges page. And that goes for any of the rest of you who want to have any hope of being my True Friend, and getting your own badge! The price of entry just went up! You need to do my AnimatedGIFAssignment 920: “From the Twilight Zone, and Beyond…” assignment now, too. So there!

By the way, I know that sometimes GIFs get WordPressed into .jpegs and all, and it probably happens when the site gets migrated or something, but I spent time making my animated GIF months back just for that assignment page, and I think that someone could take a moment and re-link my GIF back into the assignment page because it really doesn’t look all that good with just that stupid blank Star Trek screensaver of stars. Some one get on that, please. I put the GIF up at the top of this post, and here is a link to smaller copy that I made just special for the ds106 assignment page, because it goes all wonky if the GIFs aren’t just the right size, and so I took extra care with that, too.

As always, I’m watching you, Friends. And True Friends, I’m especially watching you. As for all you hopefuls, remember, along with filling in the form, you need to do this assignment now too, to get your very own very special badge.

But you know it’s worth it. Being a True Friend always is.

After reading last night of the pitiable plea for help sent out by my True Friend Ol’ Hatchet Jack (and after I immediately responded, as True Friends do), my little mind got to thinking …

Some of my other True Friends might benefit from having their own TalkyTina-certified badge, too!

Valentine Friends are Forever, … Aren’t They??

I was so happy when I read that my good and dear friend Alan (@cogdog)was encouraging us all to share our Valentine love! The ds106 “Valentine’s Day Caption Challenge.” by SaraK (cali4beach) is just wonderful! I am so looking forward to receiving your Valentine’s Day greetings!

I found this special picture in cali4beach‘s Flickr set (as per the assignment directions), and then searched high and low for hours, looking for just the right fonts. By searching using the terms “free fonts romantic” I was finally able to settle on two — Blessed Day font (by Billy Argel, for personal use only) and Precious (by Bolt Cutter Design , commercial-use friendly), both shared on fontspace.com. Aren’t they nice fonts? They are very friendly, and oh-so-romantic, too. Just wonderful for my special friends!!

After importing the image into Photoshop, and working to fit my title “Friends Forever” into the upper left corner, I decided I needed some extra space, and so I increased the Canvas Size (upwards and to the left, by clicking the cell in the lower right corner to fix the original image there) to gain a bit more space for a slightly larger font size and some white space for wiggle room. To fill in the left and top margins, I used primarily the Clone Stamp tool, with a bit of the Healing Brush tool, to fill and smoothen. I also gave both the girl and the boy some nice hair extensions — can you tell? I especially like the stylish skunk-streak the girl has coming out of her forehead. .

Once the background was fixed, I moved the text around, added a whole slew of fx settings to the text (bevel, emboss, inner glow, outer glow, drop shadow — the works), just to get my special fonts looking so wonderful. I stuck with pink and red — the colour of Valentine’s Day — as the primary choices. I think red has something to do with blood, and how hot it runs? Isn’t that true?

Once done, I exported my image as a 1200 pixel wide jpg — nice for looking at online — uploaded it to my new Flickr account, and then embedded a 640 pixel wide image here on my blog. I also tagged it with the proper tags, ds106, VisualAssignments, VisualAssignments931, and the assignment title, “Valentines Day Caption Challenge.” I also tagged cali4beach, Alan Levine, @cogdog, Friends Forever, card, Valentines Day, and, as always, Friends.
