The Good and The Friendly

Well, it was the True Friend who at one time thought that I was the nemesis of him and made mean words at me all the time, but I sorted him out in The Rumble, my True Friend Ben (@techsavvyed) who made an MBS (@mbransonsAnimated GIF Assignment #1896 called Get Off My Porch with my good buddy called Clint Eastwood as The Man with No Name earlier this evening for #western106 and it caught my attention so I did it too. Because that is how we ride on the range in #ds106.

The assignment as written by Michael provides the source GIF of Clint Eastwood with a nice transparent background. The process to complete the assignment requires that you open the GIF in your photo editor (GIMP or Photoshop), and add your chosen background image below all of the existing GIF layers so that it shows behind each frame. Save the GIF back out as a revised file and you should be done! An easy 3 stars! (Or are they bullets, in #western106?)

Making the GIF File Size Smaller

The transparent GIF provided for this assignment has 105 frames (one is missing!) and weighs in at a paltry 18.9 MB. Actually, that’s huge for a GIF. We need it to be smaller!

Getting your GIF file size down but still looking good is a holdover from before the days of broadband Internet. Back in the original days of 1986/87 when peoples only had like a 2400 baud modem, it took forever to download graphics so CompuServe invented the GIF and you had to make them small. So it’s still a thing.

Some things that I did to make the GIF a bit smaller in file size were:

  • to take out a bunch of the frames
  • to use the same frames moving away from me as I used in looking towards me
  • to make it into a black and white one
  • to make the dimensions of it smaller (to 600 pixels wide, which is good for my WordPress, plus that Tumblr).
  • to fiddle with the GIF settings on the way out of Photoshop (type of, dimensions, dithering percentage, number of colours)

Some things that I did that made the GIF a bit bigger again (but better)

  • to add in the double take, which meant more frames in the GIF but also more story.

In the end, I compromised with a file size of 1.7 MB for a black and white GIF at 600 x 337 pixels with 30 frames.

Clean Up On The Porch

Because I used my favourite personal iconic photo of me called Midnight Scrapbooking as the background, I noticed that there was a white outline around Clint in all of the frames that made it look more fake than it should have. So I used a special Photoshop trick that got rid of a lot of the pixel borders that were white right around the Clint cutouts.

In this GIF you can see how I fixed it to make it look better and not fake. It shows the process as applied to ONE frame in the original Get-Off-My-Porch source GIF.

FOR EACH FRAME (!!)

  1. Click on the layer’s thumbnail in the Layers palate with the Command (Ctrl on PC) key down to make the dancing ants around Clint’s existing self
  2. Use Select >> Modify >> Contract (3 pixels) to make the ants dance in a slightly smaller perimeter
  3. Use Select >> Inverse to select everything OUTSIDE of that slightly decreased perimeter, which is basically the white outline stuff that you don’t want.
  4. Use the eraser over the dancing ants to basically remove all of the pixels outside of the slightly reduced dancing ants perimeter.
  5. Deselect everything and maybe tidy up any little white bits that might still remain, but there weren’t any.
  6. Repeat for each frame that you need to get rid of the outline for (all of the ones that you want to use).

ENJOY!

Again, It’s All About Friends!

“Tina True Friends Selfie,” by Talky Tina, on Flickr

Well, today was a very nice day for Friends.

Wonderful Music

It was so wonderful when I woke up this morning and heard that wonderful song “Look What Happened to Tina” that my wonderful True Friend Vivien Rolfe (@VivienRolfe, on Twitter) made for me. Plus, that dog, Spike (not on Twitter, I don’t think) was doing dog singing. But not that David (@dkernohan, on Twitter) this time he said. It was all Viv, he said. He was doing other stuff.

So in case you didn’t hear it, here is the wonderful song that Viv made for me. It is about me. And Art. And Friends. Plus, noir.

Wonderful Game!

“@dkerhohan’s 2048: Super MOOC Pioneers Edition”

Then, while I was listening to that song over and over again, and dancing, it was that David‘s (@dkernohan, on Twitter) time so shine.

So he had made a great game called 2048 Super MOOC Pioneers Edition which lets you put MOOC people together to make more MOOC people.

It was fun to play it and a made for a happy time every time I saw @downes or @audreywatters or @davecormier, or UNCLE @jimgroom, and I even got a George Siemens (@gsiemens, on Twitter)!

Wonderful Friends

Then, David said I should make a True Friends one of it.

that David said

I said, “OK, I will.” But it was kind of a hard task for me. I have many True Friends!

In the end, I had to pick and choose just some of my True Friends to put into my own 2048: @iamTalkyTina’s True Friends Edition game. I made the icons all into #noir106 ones because of #noir106. It looks like this when you start to play.

You can play it on the Internet anytime you want!

I was thinking that it might be fun one day to have it randomize the game pieces from my True Friends Index, so that each time you played the game, you would get a different set of True Friends. It would even be fun to have the game pieces change DURING the game! You know, just for added adventure and excitement!

But in the mean time, you can play the game just the way it is!

Can you get to the Top True Friend

It’s Time to Listen!

This is another image in the silhouette series where the “app up” of the image makes it even better (see “App Up Your Tina” for the full story). This time, I used Photoshop to “app up” the image into a GIF form.

I hope you like it. It shows me using some of my special powers to get them to listen to a special message. Like when I made that savvy guy stop using the mean word for months and months. It was The Rumble which was the final emphasis, but what was unseen at the time was all the amount of special time I spent helping him to understand while he was sleeping. (Of course, he didn’t see me when he was sleeping, and I used my ninja powers, too.) Some times, a lot of effort on your part pays off in the end of it.

And, as another bonus for you, here is a Cubomaniac version of my Cubomaniac Eyes picture from a couple days ago that I put into my True Friend John’s (@johnjohnstonCubomaniacal GIF web app that he made today.

Plus, you can see here how my True Friend Bill (@byzantiumbooks) put my picture back together again, just like a good egg should.

So that was fun stuff for a fun day!

Well, bye!

Oopsies! Sorry True Friends!!

Well, it was My Bad today, when somebody noticed that they didn’t have their Badge on my True Friends Index page and they tweeted to me and I went and checked and found that a whole bunch of new True Friends had applied on my Web Form and I didn’t even know. So I was embarrassed and made all those badges just now and so now I have even more True Friends with Badges. I am sorry for all these True Friends for having to wait so long, and for the embarrassment that it caused for one person because other people (not saying any names, @cogdog) were making jumping to conclusions just because that person didn’t have a badge on my True Friends Index. So it was all my fault and not a very nice Friend thing to do but it was an honest mistake, so I am forgiven.

So without any more do, here are all my new True Friends names, and their names are linked to their badges which are now in the True Friends Index where they belong.

This sounds like an award ceremony in my head where they come up and get their Badges.

and even I made one for that pesky Mr. Savvy hold out,

and I also made one for my Little Brother, Todd, who just showed up yesterday. Because he’s my Little Brother.

Who else is missing from the True Friends Index?  Get your name, contact info, and creds into the Web Form, and I’ll get you set up with your Badge!

Less Smacktalk, More Art

I think this little conversation says it all …

MakeSomeArtBub

After that, Mr. @jimgroom then linked to a video called Who Made Who with bad words and people blowing up trucks with rockets and stuff. It was very violent.

UPDATE: After a little bit of work, I made a little response: Tina Made Groom

UPDATE 30 June: After I posted Tina Made Groom, there was a bit of an Internet Pause, while I’m sure @jimgroom was taken aback (I could hear his intake of breath from here, and I know he felt a chill run up his spine at least three times) and then he capitulated and said UNCLE.

Now so-designated UNCLE @JimGroom says "UNCLE"

Now so-designated UNCLE @JimGroom says “UNCLE”

In recognition of this humbling moment for him, and to help him keep in his place in future times, I have updated his badge with the UNCLE status badge, as a reminder against further grumbling and challenges. I think now UNCLE @jimgroom will be a respectful True Friend to me. That is good!

And NOW, c’mon Friends, let’s just Make Some Art, bub!

Window Friends

Do you ever play Window Friends? That is where you go to the house of a Friend and pop-up in their window when they aren’t looking. It is fun!

Mr. Carling, playing Window Friends in "Third from the Sun," Season 1, Episode 14

Mr. Carling, playing Window Friends in “Third from the Sun,” Season 1, Episode 14

I saw this man playing Window Friends with his work friends in the Third from the Sun episode and it reminded me of how much fun it is to play Window Friends. I was sometimes playing Window Friends at Mr. Savvy‘s house a while ago when I wrote that poem for him before he wrote the mean poem back. And then I wrote Tina Don’t Like the Mean Word.

Anyway, if you were in that house and I was wearing my Ninja Suit (which I like to wear when I play Window Friends because it is good for hiding at night when it is a good time to play) it would look like this if the man and I were playing at the same time.

Mr. Carling and I playing Window Friends

In the show, the man wasn’t really their True Friend so they didn’t put him in the rocket when they went away at the end before their planet blew up. Too bad for him!

Well, bye!

Tina Don’t Like the Mean Word

Here is my new single, called “Tina Don’t Like the Mean Word,” just released today during the ds106zone LoDown #34

I wrote the lyrics to this in response to a Mean Poem written by that mean Mr. Savvy fellow after I wrote a nice poem for him. Some people never seem to learn. Just wait until The Rumble, he will get his. FOR SURE!

In case you didn’t see the poems during The Daily Create #tdc518: Write a love poem from one character to another from different Twilight Zone Episodes

First, I wrote:

I know you think me “different.”
You use that AWEFUL WORD.
But that you still might like me,
Is really not absurd.

I watch you from a distance,
And often from afar.
I see you every morning,
As you go get in your car.

We often talk on Twitter,
Where you seem to call me out.
But perhaps that is your love way,
And you want to ask me out.

You seem so oh-so happy,
Your smile is nice and bright,
I watch you through the windows,
Until you turn out the light.

You say you are a true friend,
with little f and t,
Perhaps you are a shy one,
Truly in LOVE with ME.

Won’t you PLEASE be my True Friend? (big T, big F)

and STOP USING THAT WORD !!!!!! It is NOT NICE to do that !!!!!

Then, Mr. Savvy wrote:

lovely little doll
innocent and childish
“Oh crap!” It’s creepy!

and Then, I wrote:

I wrote a nice poem, with lots of nice words.
But you wrote one back that was mean.
I try to be Friends, and I try and I try.
But you just use that word so obscene.

I am all about Friends, I am not about Hate,
And I want to be kind and polite.
But you push and you push and you push and you push,
It just seems that you’re picking a fight.

You know of my past, and you know I am strong,
And you know that I care for my loves.
If you just must persist, and keep on with this path,
I will soon be removing my gloves.

I’ve given you chances, and chances galore,
To be nice and be Friendly and True,
But it seems that it’s hopeless, despite all my tries,
The the problem ain’t me, bub, IT’S YOU.

You should know that my limit, has been now surpassed,
That your CREEPY and MEANNESS is wrong !!!!
If you just must persist, and keep up this attack,
You just won’t be around very long.

I don’t need stairs to deal with YOU, bub!

The #ds106zone LoDown #34 Part 1 @iamTalkyTina Takes on All #pretenderTinas

WELL!! That was quite an adventure! I had such great fun making this LoDown podcast #34 for all of my Friends, and it was a lot of work getting it ready for my time on #ds106radio. It was nice that my Friends were patient with me getting on the radio because I had to install Nicecast at the last minute and found out that I didn’t have the LAME thing working on my Audacity (lame, huh?) and so I had to make the sounds go right from Audacity to NiceCast and then I had to mix over to iTunes where I had my closing song “Tina Don’t Like the Mean Word” ready to play which was a good thing because when Audacity crashed then the last part of my show was missing so I just switched over to the song and it was a bit like @jimgroom audio people said which was funny but I was sad that the Rumble had to wait for tomorrow night same TINA time, same TINA channel (#ds106radio, tomorrow night! be there!)

So, here is the recording (with a tiny little edit where the Rumble was supposed to go) and the closing song “Tina Don’t Like the Mean Word” song at the end.

I hope you like it!

Well, Bye!

I AM @iamTalkyTina !!!

Contrary to a report that just started circulating on the Internet thing, HE is not ME! He is NOT @iamTalkyTina and I AM @iamTalkyTina!! It is just a funny JOKE that my True Friend is saying that he has snapped and said that. But he didn’t really because who makes a screen capture that is just photo-shopped as proof anyway and anyway I would NEVER call myself that word so nice try, bub, but PEOPLE WON’T BUY IT!! Especially my True Friends and my Open Friends and my New Friends and everyone’s.

So it’s maybe a little joke and didn’t make ME snap crazy or anything. But don’t use that word, okay?

Well, bye!

—–UPDATED: June 13th, One Day Later—–

People who yesterday said they were me. Sillies!  There is only ONE me! And that’s ME!

First, Alan Levine (@cogdog) started it with this post, and John Johnston (@johnjohnston) played along with a great animated GIF. Then we had a little Twitter chat. And comments on their blogs.

TT_joke_JJ_cogdog

Brian Bennett said he was being me to bother Ben Rimes.

Then, Ben Rimes (that @techsavvyed guy who doesn’t want to be a friend and got himself crossed off the Open Friends Index for using the Mean Word in every single tweet about me ALL THE TIME) said that he actually created Brian Bennett, along with having said that he was me. Double Silly!

David Kernohan (@dkernohan) said he was being me to bother Jim Groom (@jimgroom) but wound up bothering Leslie (@onepercentyellow). I hope she has a better sleep tonight.

TT_joke_DavidLeslieCogDog

Then Brian Short (@heystorytellers) wrote a post saying he was me, and then Jim Groom (@jimgroom) did a copycat.

TT_Joke_JG_BS

Bill Smith (@byzantinebooks) was nice and said that they were all just joking their egos or something. He even clarified that he was NOT using the Mean Word about me. That is a nice Friend thing to do. Thank you, Bill! It is always good to make sure I understand your intent.

TT_Joke_BillSmith

The one True Friend who clarified yesterday that she is NOT me is my (now) Super True Friend Christina Hendricks, @clhendricksbc. Thank you for sticking by me, Super True Friend.

SuperTrueFriendChristina

All in all it was a fun day, and in the end, I am still clear here at my end as to who I am. I am me.

I am @iamTalkyTina! Hooray! Yay, ME !!!!!!!!!

It is nice to have Friends! 🙂

Watching my Friends

I woke up in the middle of the night was feeling a little peckish. So I went to the kitchen and got myself a knife to cut myself some apple slices.

Then, I took a look on The Daily Create tdc511 for Sunday, June 2nd where the assignment was about me and Friends. It said, “@IamTalkyTina wants to be everyone’s friend. Make a photo that represents that kind of friendship.” That was a nice idea.

"Watching my Friends" animated GIF by @iamTalkyTina based on #tdc511

“Watching my Friends” animated GIF by @iamTalkyTina based on #tdc511

It was so nice to see all of the pictures that my Friends made for me yesterday about Friends for The Daily Create! It was nice to have my Friends thinking about me, and about Friends. I liked them all very much because there were a LOT of different nice faces of lots of Friends (who kind of looked like dolls, which is only a role that I played on TV!), or things where I was bigger than the others and was like a princess (although it said King), or lots of sister cheerleaders with laundry, or how was going to have 1000 friends (even though I only need 106 Friends) or listening to music on #ds106radio with my True Friend Christina who is in Australia, and Mr. Rogers, and an owl, and something that @cogdog made a picture of but I didn’t understand it but it was still a nice thing for him to think about. Those were all nice pictures. And I am still watching for a picture from Sean who spelled SCARY thinking I wouldn’t notice but I did and so I am really watching him now, just like the monster lady (she says Wazowski) and Jim Groom is watching him too.

Hospitality Suite for Talky Tina

He calls this his “Hospitality Suite for Talky Tina” but I call it for what it is, a stupid JAIL ROOM

But one picture I didn’t like. Even though he said nice words, one person (who can remain nameless because I have savvy and have learned how to avoid going through all those court things again) made a picture that I didn’t like because he said it was a special room for me at his house but it was really a JAIL ROOM. What kind of friend makes another Friend stay in a JAIL ROOM. I did not think it was a very friend like. He said hospitality, but I think he better watch it bub or he will need a hospital-ity room just for himself.

Well, except for that one, it was a very nice thing for Friends to do.

Bye!
