Tina on the Red Carpet

"Tina - Red Carpet Stairs 2" animated GIF by @iamTalkyTina

“Tina – Red Carpet Stairs 2” animated GIF by @iamTalkyTina

Well, sometimes I go to a Red Carpet event and I get my picture taken. In this case, these pictures are from a carpeting convention in Buffalo, so I was just wearing a sweatshirt and jeans instead of my usual glamour gown. But these pictures are good for showing today’s The Daily Create Challenge tdc621:

Make a photograph featuring a path, road, or trail that leads the eye through the photograph.

Like I said, I decided to use red like a bullfighter to help guide your eye like a bull fighter waves red things to guide the bull’s eye, plus I used stairs which you should really be paying attention to, so that you don’t slip and fall and all.

After I made all of those pictures, I also made a GIF one.  I put it at the top to really catch your eye with guiding your eye and red and stairs and moving. But you should look at the other pictures I made too, Tina – Red Carpet Stairs 1, Tina – Red Carpet Stairs 2, Tina – Red Carpet Stairs 3, Tina – Red Carpet Stairs 4, Tina – Red Carpet Stairs 5  because they are all good too.

CHALLENGE: In each picture, see if you can let the picture guide your eye right to me. Does it work? I bet so!

tdc618 Tina and John and Andy Face Swap

“Tina and John and Andy Face Swap” by iamtalkytina, on Flickr

Well, unlike my two True Friends John and Andy, I carefully read the instructions and noted that it wasn’t a head swap that we were supposed to do for tdc618, but rather only a face swap.

I don’t think that I like my face swapped too much, but I think that John and Andy look kind of different this way.

My picture is made using this one by Andy, which was made using this one by John.

Well, bye. And next time, read the instructions, bub!

Oopsies! Sorry True Friends!!

Well, it was My Bad today, when somebody noticed that they didn’t have their Badge on my True Friends Index page and they tweeted to me and I went and checked and found that a whole bunch of new True Friends had applied on my Web Form and I didn’t even know. So I was embarrassed and made all those badges just now and so now I have even more True Friends with Badges. I am sorry for all these True Friends for having to wait so long, and for the embarrassment that it caused for one person because other people (not saying any names, @cogdog) were making jumping to conclusions just because that person didn’t have a badge on my True Friends Index. So it was all my fault and not a very nice Friend thing to do but it was an honest mistake, so I am forgiven.

So without any more do, here are all my new True Friends names, and their names are linked to their badges which are now in the True Friends Index where they belong.

This sounds like an award ceremony in my head where they come up and get their Badges.

and even I made one for that pesky Mr. Savvy hold out,

and I also made one for my Little Brother, Todd, who just showed up yesterday. Because he’s my Little Brother.

Who else is missing from the True Friends Index?  Get your name, contact info, and creds into the Web Form, and I’ll get you set up with your Badge!

I Yam Talky Tina

After I posted “I Ain’t No Spud, Bub!” this morning, my Super True New Old Radio Friend @scottlo suggested that the picture would work for the Yam assignment. And I will confess, I did think about this today as I was working with the Potato Head kit.

Scott’s recommendation was just too good to pass up, and so after chasing down the authentic Yam from Joan Shaffer (@echoln), it was a simple application of the magic wand, the eraser, the rotate, the scale, the eraser, adjust the layering, and boom!

I especially like the way my hair ribbons (that I had previously colourized to go with the colours in my #ds106radio shirt) match the skin tone of my yambody.  I look wonderful as a Yam!

With ds106, you just CAN’T have too much fun!!  #4life

“Talky Tina Potato Head,” by iamtalkytina, on Flickr

Least @cogdog think that he is seeing my adorable face everywhere again, let me just say that this is actually a demo of an official Miss @iamTalkytina Potato Head kit that Hasboro was testing a little over a decade ago — remember when they did all the theme potato heads — Darth Vader among them? As it would turn out, the royalties from this little product would have provided me with a nice little addition to my nest egg, but as my luck would have it, the target market was too far removed from the popular culture of 1963, and my version was never released.

Dollars aside, I didn’t really mind this too much — they never did get my nose and mouth quite right to my way of thinking.

If you think that this looks like @cogdog‘s picture of him holding a potato that he posted yesterday, how could that be? This is a picture of a Miss @iamTalkytina Potato Head from over a decade ago.

Well, Bye!

ds106radio Friends

When it is just me at home, ds106rad.io makes it easier for me to miss my friends. I thought that you all might like to see a picture of me with a couple of my special d106radio Friends, Grant and Jason.

Me and my ds106rad.io peeps, Grant and Jason

Me and my ds106rad.io peeps, Grant and Jason. photo by @iamTalkyTina (see note below)

As you probably know, Grant Potter (@grantpotter) is the one who invented ds106radio and he has the special magic powers that keep the radio station going. Grant was making lots of great radio shows on ds106radio this year like Nightfall from the CBC and all that great Rod Serling and Twilight Zone companion shows that have been on there this year. Plus, sometimes he plays his guitar and sings and puts on radio talking shows that are fun to listen to. Grant has a special ds106radio name secret identity, too, but I will not blurt out a secret name. Friends don’t just let a secret pop out just because they know it.

Jason Toal (@draggin) likes to play music with funky beats that get me dancing to the funky music beats. He has lots of special restorative music powers that let him play great music and make it really fun to listen to. But Jason also has a special ds106radio name secret identity, and I will protect his secret identity in the ds106radio world just like for Grant. Jason’s music is like medicine when you are missing your friends. Oh, yeah!

Well, I hope you like listening to ds106radio as much as I do. One of the great things about the ds106 world is ds106radio. That is why I am glad that ds106radio is here. You can listen to ds106radio by going to ds106rad.io/listen on the Internet or on a mobile device. If you want, you can get something called TuneIn Radio app that makes it easy to listen. It comes in all kinds of flavours for tasty Apple devices, and Blackberry devices, and robot Android devices and even devices for your Windows (i don’t really understand that one!). Even for devices for the Palm of your hand, if you can believe it!!! Once you get it installed, just search for ds106 and pick the one that says “Canada: We Jam Econo” (Grant is from Canada and so is Jason) because that is the new one that works with ds106rad.io since it got a 2.0 upgrade. (Because ds106rad.io will be a favourite of yours, put it in your Favourites list by clicking on the love heart in the app.)

A Little Note: Just in case you were wondering, my photo of me and my ds106radio friends looks a lot like this one that Alan Levine (@cogdog) made, except that this is clearly a different one because I am in it. I say this just so that you won’t get the two photos confused.

Well, Bye!  I’ll hear you on ds106rad.io !!!

Grant, Jason, and Tina — The Animated Easter Egg Version  (watch closely, or you’ll miss it!)

Hello to my New Friends (and my True Friends)

It’s the beginning of Mr. Groom‘s summer version of ds106 and he is doing it ALL ABOUT THE TWILIGHT ZONE! It is called ds106zone That is so neat! I like that and Mr. Groom is one of my True Friends. (You can see his badge on my True Friends Index page. Apply for yours today.)

I was up working on my scrapbook, and I realized that I hadn’t done my introduction photo and post for my New Friends, and so I took a picture and posted it to my Flickr account. Here it is.

“Midnight Scrapbooking” by iamtalkytina, on Flickr

I’m going to use this picture for both the Monday and the Tuesday The Daily Create assignments, too. — I hope that my True Friends won’t think too badly of me for doing that. It’s NOT cheating! And I’m not a cheater.

So, for Monday, I was supposed to take a picture of myself to introduce little ol’ me to the new summer ds106 students. The rest of you (especially those of you who have signed up for your True Friends badges) know who I am already. Or you better. But for my New Friends, I am @iamTalkyTina. And The Twilight Zone is one of my favourite shows, because I worked for Mr. Rod Serling back in 1963 on a special episode called Living Doll. I have lots of friends in The Twilight Zone. So this is my photo for #tdc498 “Welcome to the ds106zone! Take a photo that introduces yourself to the class.” Hello, New Friends!!!

And for Tuesday, #tdc499 “Take a picture of where you are right now from a weird point of view, like an ant, an alien, or a ghost.” Well, I hope that ant comment isn’t about my height, but like I said, I just happened to be up at midnight working on my scrapbook when I remembered The Daily Create and so I took this selfie in the hallway. I didn’t seen any aliens or any ghosts, bub.

I am looking forward to seeing and hearing all of your wonderful work, both from my New Friends and my True Friends.
Remember, some say True Friends are #4life, but really the True Friends are #4ever. If they aren’t really True Friends, then the friendship ends at the end of their life.

Bye!! 🙂

Ready for my Close-Up, Mr. Bava

Mr. Bava said I looked too young for the role.

Unpublished still from my screen test for Mario Bava's "Black Sunday" (1960).

Unpublished still from my screen test for Mario Bava’s “Black Sunday” (1960).

I’ve heard that for my entire career in show biz.

Granted, this gal has certainly aged well. Some would say that I have a timeless look. And that’s always nice to hear. But always hearing “too young” gets on my nerves sometimes.

“You’re not what we’re looking for.”
“You’re too wholesome”
“Your cute dimples tell everyone you’re a good girl, and we’re looking for someone with a more sinister look.”

I don’t think it was my height, because that wouldn’t be nice not to cast people just based on that.

But I kept hearing that “too young”, over and over, in the early sixties.

And then I got my big break on that Twilight Zone episode, and I decided to really put my all in to that role — and look what it got me.

Typecast. Typecast as the evil-little-doll-girl that kills.

At least I made some nice friends during that screen test. Demon and Alistair let me ride them around the set, and helped me get to the craft table before everyone else for all the yummy goodies during the break.

Ah, memories.

A Valentine Controversy from 1965

Jeb's Telescopefrom Hatchet Jack

Jeb’s Telescope
from Hatchet Jack

Hatchet Jack posted a Valentine Book cover yesterday that sent my little mind whirling decades back to the sixties. The book, entitled “Jeb’s Telescope,” and written by “Remington Montana,” was very clearly a re-release of a very controversial novel that I encountered way back in 1965.

While the newer cover is in colour, and the title clearly refers to the key plot features of the original (and even the author name is clearly an updated pseudonym), the implications inherent in the original release have been clearly toned down to get the book safely onto to the book shelves and get money out of the book-buyers’ pocket books.

It took me a good day of scrounging around to find a copy of the earlier, release but compare Hatchet Jack’s find above with this:

Image

Original cover (1965) of “The Gathering at Bushnell Falls” (Animated GIF)

I recall a lot of furor in the news when this book first came out. People really raised their eyebrows at the word “Gathering” in the title.  There were lawsuits from manufacturers of optical devices. There was a mitigating attempt to re-issue the book with a more accurate and less stimulating and legally provocative title, “The Five Evil Brothers at Bushney’s Falls.”   But it was all to no avail. The book was pulled, the author moved out of state (perhaps to Montana?), and everyone forgot about it.

To see that the book was re-released later, after all that spectacle (did you see what I did there?), with the relatively passive title “Jeb’s Telescope,” just goes to show how much folks still judge a book by its cover.

Speaking of which, I hope you are are seeing me in a new light, now that I am out of that old musty cardboard box and taking some time to work at helping folks see me as I truly want to be seen. Perhaps you have been enjoying my newly-updated publicity photo, my very first piece of voice work for ds106radio, and my Valentine shared for all of you yesterday.

I am still waiting for comments to float my way. I currently only have one measly pingback — and it is from myself (although those self-links I just added above should get me more).

I do trust that all my new friends here at ds106 aren’t too busy to pay me a little attention. You know that real Friends don’t forget one another.

That would be a sad thing. Andbad thing. Very bad.

Valentine Friends are Forever, … Aren’t They??

“Friends Forever, … or just for Life?” by iamtalkytina, on Flickr

I was so happy when I read that my good and dear friend Alan (@cogdog)was encouraging us all to share our Valentine love! The ds106 “Valentine’s Day Caption Challenge.” by SaraK (cali4beach) is just wonderful! I am so looking forward to receiving your Valentine’s Day greetings!

I found this special picture in cali4beach‘s Flickr set (as per the assignment directions), and then searched high and low for hours, looking for just the right fonts. By searching using the terms “free fonts romantic” I was finally able to settle on two — Blessed Day font (by Billy Argel, for personal use only) and Precious (by Bolt Cutter Design , commercial-use friendly), both shared on fontspace.com. Aren’t they nice fonts? They are very friendly, and oh-so-romantic, too. Just wonderful for my special friends!!

After importing the image into Photoshop, and working to fit my title “Friends Forever” into the upper left corner, I decided I needed some extra space, and so I increased the Canvas Size (upwards and to the left, by clicking the cell in the lower right corner to fix the original image there) to gain a bit more space for a slightly larger font size and some white space for wiggle room. To fill in the left and top margins, I used primarily the Clone Stamp tool, with a bit of the Healing Brush tool, to fill and smoothen. I also gave both the girl and the boy some nice hair extensions — can you tell? I especially like the stylish skunk-streak the girl has coming out of her forehead. .

Once the background was fixed, I moved the text around, added a whole slew of fx settings to the text (bevel, emboss, inner glow, outer glow, drop shadow — the works), just to get my special fonts looking so wonderful. I stuck with pink and red — the colour of Valentine’s Day — as the primary choices. I think red has something to do with blood, and how hot it runs? Isn’t that true?

Once done, I exported my image as a 1200 pixel wide jpg — nice for looking at online — uploaded it to my new Flickr account, and then embedded a 640 pixel wide image here on my blog. I also tagged it with the proper tags, ds106, VisualAssignments, VisualAssignments931, and the assignment title, “Valentines Day Caption Challenge.” I also tagged cali4beach, Alan Levine, @cogdog, Friends Forever, card, Valentines Day, and, as always, Friends.

I hope you all like it! Happy Valentine’s Day. I will be watching my inbox and twitter account for signs of your own shared love for me.
